We all have individual preferences when it comes to how we receive our news, but this week we are throwing out the biases and preferences and just investigating the article. Getting rid of the brand name in a sense. Starting off with a Fox business episode about healthcare and the apple watch. Fox is known for having more conservative views which is why I tend not to tune in to this channel as it does not align with my own political beliefs. With that being said this clip about the apple watch affecting healthcare was very well done and had no political influence at all. Marc Siegel, American Physician and associate professor of medicine at NYU Langone Medical Center, was called in to give his opinion. He states that it is the very first time the FDA has approved a device based on software alone. However, it is stated that there could be some drawbacks which makes this news clip more credible. Siegel states that the heart rate monitor could alert emergency services “ when you are just taking a siesta”. On the contrary, MSNBC is a news source I generally go to and trust. There is a news clip about cell phone use provided by Gretchen Rubin, an American author and speaker, telling the audience about some ways to have a digital detox. The issue I had with this interview was the lack of scientific data to support her claims. Everything she said made sense, keep it out of sight and turn it off at night, but there was never really a reason provided for why you should do that. In addition, she has written many books about happiness, human nature, and habit, but she is an author not a researcher. She has not conducted any of her own studies to find out if her tips are truly effective. These two news clips boil down to who provided the facts and today Fox news won the battle.
